lots of good information, articles, and a locator so you can find local groups in your area.|||The founder of Buddhism is Siddhartha Gautma who was born around 580 B.C.E in northern India. He was the son of a king, who kept him at home because there was a prophecy at his time of birth that said he would be a great king if he stayed at home, but would be the savior of mankind if he left home. So his father kept him at home because he wanted him to be a good king, and eventually Gautma married and had a son. Gautma wanted to see the world and eventually his father agreed to the excursion, as long as the roads were cleaned and decorated and the old or sick where hidden. Some people did not listen and Gautma saw old age, sickness, death, he also saw a monk begging for food and decided that that life of tranquility was right for him, so he lift his family and went to join them.

In Siddharta's day, being a beggar monk was an acceptable lifestyle; people respected people for giving up earthly ambitions and devoting themselves to a virtuous poverty. They received shelter and handouts of food. There was a lot of disagreement, however, as to what exactly it means to be holy and virtuous. Which was the right way? Siddharta, having become a poor monk, joined the school of ascetics, who believed that mortification of the body leads to the purification of the mind and spirit. Starving yourself, sitting upright for days without sleep, poking needles through your body - this was their way. At age thirty-five having reduced himself to a mere skeleton, he realized that this self-denial wasn't anymore satisfying than his original lifestyle of ignorant self-indulgence had been.Siddharta abandoned asceticism, much to the disgust of his fellow practitioners, and he strengthened his body and sat down under a fig tree to meditate. And that's when it happened: Siddharta Gautama realized the Middle Way between self-indulgence and harshness, and became enlightened. He was now the Buddha.

The Buddha made no fuss about this experience, but ascetics where annoyed that he abandoned his ascetic vows, and noticed that he seemed to be unusually peaceful and his eyes seemed to shine with the light of understanding. So they gathered one day and asked the Buddha what was going on. That was when the Buddha gave his first talk as the Awakened One, the lecture which explained the Four Noble Truths of Buddhism. These noble truths are the core of the Buddhist belief system; the only way to reach enlightenment is to accept these Noble Truths.|||Siddhartha was a rich prince who grew dissatisfied with life at the palace. So he fled in the middle of the night and decided he would live a religious life and not quit until he had reached enlightenment. Seven years later, during a long meditation, he uncovered four noble truths: That life is agony, that attachment to desire causes attachment, that detachment from desire would liberate us and that a noble eightfold path could lead to liberation. The eightfold path consists of Right Speech, right Action, right Intention, right livelihood, right effort, right concentration, right mindfulness and right view.

Today, although Buddhism is still more common in Asia, it is practiced around the world. Major schools of Buddhism include Theravada, Mahayana (including Chen or Zen), Tantric and Tibetan.|||You would need to be a bit more specific for me to answer you properly.

The Buddha Siddhartha was the Croun prince of the Shakkia Clan, who when 29 on the day his son Rahula was born left to find Nibbana aka Enlightenment. His son'e name is based on a word that means Fetter due to Siddhartha saying not another fetter when he heard of the birth, as he had longed to escape the confines of the palace.

He took 3 trips out side of the palace when he say an old man, a sick man and a courpse and later a holy man, which made him think about life.

six years after his renunciation of worldly life he found Nibbana, and thus became the buddha, and Taught in the common language of the time Magadhi know to day as Pali although pali means text in magadhi.

his teachings can be summed up in a short verse 'not to do evil, to cultivate good, to purify the mind, that is the teaching of all the buddha's.

He had initially not wanted to ordain women into the sangha as most of the femail estetics at the time were Prostitutes or wives of Brahmen (the priesly cast) and a group including his step mother had to ask 3 times, with some help from Ananda the buddha's attendant before the Buddha agread (remember the Buddha was a man of his time and area not ours)

The buddha Died when he was 80 years old.

the main teachings of the buddha are Annata - No self, Anitta - Imperminance, and Dukkha - Suffering/unsatisfactoryness/conflict etc.

buddhism belongs to the Dharmic Class of religion and has no god worship as such as anyone in a past or future life can be a god, but their are veneration of beings such as buddha's and Boddhisattvas.

Mail me if you need to know more this is just a very rough outline from the top off my head|||Siddharta is the prince that became a buddha.

he was raised sheltered from the real world in the palace. spoiled by his fathers riches. but bored. so one day he decided to sneek out the palace to see the outside world for himself. what he saw outside the palace walls shocked him.

on his way, he met an old blind man, a sick man and a dieing man. he saw the suffering of the world.

he also met an old monk. in orange apperall, and with a shaven head. he asked a bystander why the monk looked so happy. and he told him. monks are the people that tell others on how to become happy. the prince was jaelous as he wanted to be like that.

a few nights later. after having seen the world. he left his palace for good. leaving everything behind. to become a monk.

for 7 years on end he looked for the source of man's suffering. he posessed nothing but the clothes he wore. he lived off the charity of others. He studied the holy hindu writings. yet still did not understand why people suffered.

tired and disdain he sat under a figtree. and decided to not eat, drink nor move until he had found the origin of suffering. and there under that figtree he realised: man caused his own suffering by wanting to much. to relieve suffering, you must decrease desire.

He left the figtree enlightened (as a buddha) and roamed the land for 80 years spreading his message.|||Gautama Buddha was the last great philosopher from the East - Buddhism is a very peaceful religion , the tenets of buddhism are collectively known as the Eight Fold Path.
