What book should I read to learn about Buddhism?

My 14th birthday is coming up and I've requested "The Tao of Pooh" by Benjamin Hoff because I'm interested in learning about Taoism. I would also like to learn about Buddhism, though. I'm a flaming newbie to religions (except Christianity and Atheism) and these religions interest me the most. What is a good book to read that will introduce me to Buddhism?|||What The Buddha Taught: By: Dr Walpola Rahula- is an excellent introductory book on Buddhism, can be freely downloaded here http://www.mediafire.com/?d5mz5dztnm4#1

Bst wishers!|||There is a difference between Taoism and Buddhism. The Tao Te Ching or Dao De Jing is the basis of Taoism.

Buddhism is a little more difficult. Alan Watts' The Way of Zen is a Western approach; however, Beginner's Mind, Zen Mind by Shunryu Suzuki clarifies that the way to enlightenment is by meditation not by intellectual discourse. Suzuki taught Alan Watts how to meditate. Alan Watts with Shunryu Suzuki wrote the insightful Tao: The Water Course Way.

As a historical note, when Buddhism came to China and then to Japan, Buddhism incorporated native beliefs as is the case of Taoism. Many translations of the Tao Te Ching are through Buddhists eyes.

Finally rather than read, I suggest you join a [Zen] Buddhist group. In addition I recommend that you consider learning Aikido, a movement of Zen.|||"Siddhartha" by Hermann Hesse is good on the same tip as the Tao of Poo (the Te of Piglet is a great compliment) Its a classic. More like a fable than specifically educational.

"The World We Have: A Buddhist Approach to Peace and Ecology"

Thich Nat Hanh is great a explaining the basics of Buddhism.

Alan Watts "Buddhism the Religion of no Religion." or any of his on Buddhism. Alan Watts has a way of bringing eastern philosophy to the English speaker that is unparallelled and brimming with dry wit.

Have fun!|||I would recommend you to read the book "Good Question, Good Answer" by Bhikkhu Shravasti Dhammika. This book is in the form of question and answers which introduces the reader to Buddhism .This book is available on the internet for free and can be easily searched and downloaded.|||Although it's not technically a Buddhist book, I would say read the Bhagavad Gita. It's pretty much what Gautama Buddha was trying to teach his disciples.|||there are many books.

these are enough for a long time. all you need is take time and read and try to grasp the rough picture first. you will gradually understand. but you can keep asking questions when you need to - you can ask the people on the first site http://www.bffct.net/id9.html|||You can't go wrong with the "dummies" series of books, so how about Buddhism for Dummies? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0764553鈥?/a>|||Buddhism today is best represented in Japan. Read any Japanese books. Or read the Dhammapadas which is easily available online.|||KINGDOM OF THE CULTS BY WALTER MARTIN...
