What does it take to convert to buddhism?

I'm thinking heavily of converting to buddhism. What is was wondering is what does it mostly take to convert to buddhism.|||Just understanding the Four Noble Truths, walking the Eightfold Path, and following the Five Precepts for Laymen. |||"Converting to Buddhism" is an incorrect phrase. Buddhism is a philosophy and not a religion. Any deism added to Buddhism is not correct Buddhism. It is about reaching a greater state of mind and being, not obtaining eternal existence. Only the eternal existence would be in the hearts that your selflessness continued to affect others.|||Find a dharma center in your area, and check it out. After a few weeks or months, if you feel like what you are practicing works and just... "fits," then you can ask the head teacher about taking a Refuge vow.

This is where you state officially that you take refuge in the Buddha (as a spiritual leader, teacher, and role model), the Dharma (the teachings or path the Buddha taught), and the Sangha (the community of Buddhists who are there to help and support you). Once you've taken refuge, you are "officially" Buddhist.|||To borrow a phrase from Forrest Gump, Buddhist is as Buddhist does.

Study and live according to Buddhist principles, and you are a Buddhist. That's all there is to it.|||You don't really convert... just begin to follow. listen to Just Sam. Hes smart.|||Study his lessons.

Learn them from your own perspective and interpretation.|||calling yourself one|||To become an official Buddhist according to any official Buddhist group, you have to become a monk. This only lasts for a year (unless you decide this is the life for you). Otherwise, it is just like converting to any belief system, including what kind of underwear you find more comfortable. When you believe it, you believe it.|||Buddhism teaches that Nirvana is the highest state of being, a state of pure being, and it is achieved by means relative to the individual. Nirvana defies rational explanation and logical ordering and therefore cannot be taught, only realized. Jesus鈥?teaching on heaven, in contrast, was quite specific. He taught us that our physical bodies die but our souls ascend to be with Him in heaven (Mark 12:25). The Buddha taught that people do not have individual souls, for the individual self or ego is an illusion. For Buddhists there is no merciful Father in heaven who sent His Son to die for our souls, for our salvation, to provide the way for us to reach His glory. Ultimately, that is why Buddhism is to be rejected.|||if you wanna convert to any religion then i recomend not converting|||A great deal of naivete.
